Brushing your teeth twice a day, once in the morning and once at night, is important for your oral health. However, Dr. Hwang, Dr. Chung, and our team stress that brushing your teeth properly is even more important for a healthy mouth. To improve your dental hygiene effectiveness, follow the following tips:

Take Time
Do you brush your teeth enough? You should brush your teeth at least twice a day and take at least two minutes each time. Divide your mouth into four sections and brush for 30 seconds in each.

Choose the Right Toothbrush
Just any toothbrush may not be right for you. Consider the size of your mouth when you choose a toothbrush, whether it be electric or manual. Your toothbrush should reach all areas of your mouth easily and comfortably. When choosing a toothbrush, go with one with soft bristles, as hard bristles can hurt your gums.

Don’t Get Carried Away
Do not brush more than three times a day, as this can wear down your tooth enamel and damage your gums. Also, use a light hand when you brush. Bearing down too hard can also damage the enamel.

Choose Toothpaste Wisely
Choose a toothpaste that contains fluoride. If you wish to whiten your smile, switch between whitening toothpaste and regular, as whitening toothpastes can be harsh on the teeth. Tartar controlling toothpastes can also be too rough on teeth.

Watch What You Eat
Sour candies, energy drinks, and diet sodas contain acid that can soften your tooth enamel. Even some healthy things like apple juice, orange juice, and coffee can have this effect. If you do consume these things, wait for half an hour before brushing your teeth to give your saliva sufficient time to restore your enamel.

Keep Your Toothbrush Clean
Stand your toothbrush up in a holder between uses. Leaving it on the counter can expose it to germs from the toilet and sink. Don’t let your toothbrush touch another’s when they are being stored. Let your toothbrush air dry as a moist brush may grow bacteria.

Replace Your Toothbrush
Get a new toothbrush every three to four months. Frayed or broken bristles will not clean your teeth, so watch for this.
